NEW KOMPAKT LABEL ANNOUNCEMENT - KOMP3

The wind of digitalized change has blown into a full force gale and there´s been no sign of this storm passing anytime soon. Only 623 days ago we embarked on KOMPAKT-MP3 - our online shop that was originally set up to provide ways and means to legally purchase our in-house labels and KOMPAKT DISTRIBUTED music. But demand persists and the past year has seen our shop blossom at an amazing rate, happily expanding to offer over 300 labels from all corners of the music. We promise the coming year to not only just bring you more music where you can find the most extensive PRE-RELEASE records to be found in techno online, but improvements that aim to make your visit to KOMPAKT-MP3 as friendly and gratifying as shopping at our record store here in Cologne.

We´re pleased to announce our new addition to the KOMPAKT family ... KOMP3. An exclusive digital-only imprint, KOMP3 is born out of necessity. Why? KOMPAKT receives too much music that we absolutely believe in and unfortunately have only so much room in our physical format release schedule to be able to offer it to you. We don´t look at KOMP3 as a label that will spare releases that we deem less worthy of deserving to be physically manufactured; on the contrary - KOMP3 is set to focus on KOMPAKT´s most important members, particularly from our family of musicians who you often find on our beloved POP AMBIENT collections.

This brings us to our first release on KOMP3 ... though our friend from New Zealand that holds the title as the Australia´s World Frisbee Champion, ANDREW THOMAS is a longstanding KOMPAKT member who easily wins as our premier purveyor for all that is sublimely ethereal in music. With his new full length "GAPS IN THE SUN", THOMAS builds on his tremendous ability to sonically audibly transform a room in the most paramont of ways, mingling a classic piano with the digitality of subtle clicks and pops and the warms of synth strings. As with the truly great ambient excursions, "GAPS IN THE SUN" comes across as a massive sonic feast when listened to at loud levels as well as a pleasant, lovely addition to your background ambience. More melodic than you´ve ever heard him before, "GAPS IN THE SUN" could be that perfect companion for a countryside walk following a storm.
